As someone who loves to DJ but doesn’t, nor wants to, DJ every single weekend, I like to look for deals out there for items that are generally very pricey.  In this case, I was looking for some uplights that I could add to my collection as more and more clients have been asking me if I have them lately.  I already had a pair of American DJ P36 LED’s, which I generally just put on my light truss, but I wanted something a little more powerful yet still not spend a chunk of change.

What I found were these 18 x 3 par LED lights called, get ready for this, Super Wonderful Par LED.  After reading the reviews on Amazon and their price point @ ~$35/each, I figured why not buy four and see how they work out.  Sure, there are tons out there that may be a lot better, like American DJ or Chauvet, but for what I was going to use them for, I figured these would be just right.  Plus, those others can get pretty pricey, and if you want to expand with more uplights, it can be pretty pricey.

These lights can be setup using 3 or 7 channel DMX, or can be daisy chained as master/slave using the included programs.  Since I’m using them mainly for up-lights, I just programmed them to stay on all the time.

I tested them out at home and programmed them to run on my DMX software (Q Light+ Controller).   Since I only wanted them for basic up-lighting, I created buttons on my software to be able to select the different main colors: blue, red, green, yellow, purple, and orange.  Of course, you can set them to most RGB color combinations, but I stuck with the basics.  Since I was going to connect these to my existing lights, I also purchased a DMX terminator since my wires were going to be longer than 100 ft, and that’s just standard for when you have long DMX runs.

The ONLY thing that was a little quirky was when I was placing them on the floor.  The included brackets are not that long, so based on your wire you may have to either play with them a bit or get longer brackets.  I managed to play with my wires and they barely fit… meaning when I angled the lights up the wall, the wires almost touched the floor.

The first time I used them was at a high school prom and set them to blue.  When they turned off the lights inside the gym, these lights looked AMAZING!!!  They reached to the ceiling of the gym (you can’t tell by the picture) and I received a lot of positive feedback.

Here I used them at a quinceanera and placed them alongside the wall.

Here they are at another high school prom where their colors were black and red.
